Activities with the League of Corporate Foundations

As chair of the Committee on Arts and Culture of the League of Corporate Foundations, Ortigas Foundation, Inc. has been very active in the recent major activities of the League.

First, the Committee took the lead in a Heart-Painting Activity participated in by 20 children-beneficiaries from different LCF Member Foundations. Held last June 2 at the Ayala Museum, the children, whom included 2 girls from OFI and DSWD-Pasig’s Balik Eskwela Education Program, painted their views on love and giving using mixed media on canvas.

The artworks were presented to the public in the LCF CSR Expo Kick-Off held last June 7 at the Petron Cultural Hall. The artworks were given as unique and sentimental tokens to the CSR Expo 2006’s major partners and sponsors.

The Arts and Culture Committee also spearheaded the Kick-Off which gave the media and the supporters and friends of LCF a preview on what will happen in this year’s Corporate Social Responsibility Expo. With the theme, “Taking CSR to Art,” a spin-off to the Expo 2006 theme, the Arts and Culture Committee offered everybody with intermission numbers and presentations that showcased the talents and artistry of the beneficiaries of the different corporate foundations.

The students of the Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education (CENTEX) of Ayala Foundation opened the program with their inspiring interpretation of the National Anthem. The Michaelian Theater and Dance Company of St. Michael’s College in Laguna offered a black theater presentation of a past CSR Expo Theme Song, “Beyond Giving.” Kenneth Padilla, a beneficiary of PAL Foundation who’s inflicted with a rare disease, performed “When You Wish Upon A Star” on his portable organ. The audience were impressed with the performances that they invited the performers again during the Opening of the Expo itself.

Ortigas Foundation, Inc. also collaborated with the rest of the Arts and Culture Committee to put up an Arts Zone in the CSR Expo held from July 5-7 at the Market! Market! in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. This was the first time an Arts Zone was put up in the CSR Expo. The Arts Zone showcased the three main thrusts of the Committee which are to promote: 1. Cultural Tourism, 2. Creative Industries and Livelihood, and 3. Arts Education. Metrobank Foundation showcased artworks made by their winning artists. Philam Foundation and Phinma Foundation sponsored the exhibit of the Mangyan Heritage Center. And Ortigas Foundation lent its rare vintage photographs on the Philippine way of life at the turn of the century.

Ortigas Foundation, Inc. also had a booth showcasing the Foundation’s projects and advocacies. OFI also helped out in the management of events and exhibits for the CSR Expo 2006.

Aside from its involvements in the Expo and pre-Expo activities, the Arts and Culture Committee also organized a Cultural Heritage Tour last June 10. Attended by some members of LCF, the tour covered the Museum of the Filipino People, Orchidarium and Butterfly Pavilion, Bahay Chinoy and San Agustin Church and Museum. The next Cultural Heritage Tour will be organized soon. The second tour will be held probably in August, visiting cultural and artistic places in Laguna.
