The WAY of MARY project is a network of twenty (20) shrines, each featuring in bas-relief the 20 mysteries of the Holy Rosary. To be built along the stretch of Ortigas Avenue from the EDSA Shrine to the Antipolo Cathedral, The Way of Mary will serve as the principal route for "Ang Banal na Paglalakbay," what is known today as Alay Lakad.
Some three years ago, His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin envisioned the building of the Rosary Shrines along the present Alay Lakad pilgrimage route. In the long-held tradition, thousands trek Ortigas and Sumulong highways, converging at Antipolo Cathedral, to offer their personal pilgrimage to the Crucified Lord through the Virgin of Good Voyage. The number of devotees has grown through the years, as a virtual sea of pilgrims fill the 14 km road to Antipolo twice a year - on Maundy Thursday and on April 30, the eve of the tradition-laden Antipolo May Festival.
The Shrines will imbue the traditional pilgrimage with a stronger religious character as they provide the pilgrims religious oases to spiritually nourish them in their faithful journey to Jesus through Mary.
